Description
Mt. Elgon is the 4th highest mountain in East Africa with it’s highest peak Waggagai at an altitude of 4230m. The route has spectacular scenic landscapes and numerous waterfalls, gorges, cliffs, caves as well as the speculator views. After the hike you transfer back to Kampala and get to experience some on the local culture during a sightseeing tour of the city.

Sample ItineraryDay 1
Depart from your home city for your flight to Kampala. Upon arrival in Kampala you will be met and transferred to Hotel Africana where you will check in and thereafter have an opportunity to change money.
Day 2
After breakfast, check out and drive to Mbale town near Mt Elgon National Park where you will check in at Mbale Resort hotel for dinner and overnight.
Day 3
An early morning start, after a quick breakfast you start out on the hike following the Kapkwata Trail head. The trail follows a scenic route through bamboo, heath and moorland. After lunch continue on to Piswa Camp at an altitude of 2850m, where you will set up camp for the night.
Day 4
Today’s hike takes you up to the rim of the Caldera through beautiful columns of Lobelia Elgonensis. On route you visit the hot springs and the Suam Gorge before descending to the Hunters Cave Camp at an altitude of 3870m for your overnight camp.
Day 5
Enjoy an early morning breakfast before setting out to ascend to the top of the Caldera and Wagagai Peak at an altitude of 4321. After celebrating your accomplishment with a few photo’s and a short rest, descend via Jackson’s Summit and the Jackson’s pool to Mude Camp at an altitude of 3500m where you’ll camp overnight.
Day 6
Your last day on the trail, making an early start you descend following the Sasa trail to Budadiri. There you will be met and transferred via Mbale to Kampala. Dinner and overnight at the Hotel Africana.
Day 7
Depending on the time of your flight back home you may have an opportunity to go on a short city tour of Kampala and Entebbe. The tour includes a visit the Namugongo shrine to the Uganda martyrs, Museum, Bahai Temple and African village for shopping with lunch in between, You will transfer to the airport in time for your flight back home.
